Realistically though, I can't see how the VPS could easily monitor which alogrithms work and which don't, since they don't have access to view your trade account. They would need to maliciously hack in to see your transaction history in order to determine whether or not your algorithm is worth anything at all (remember that most traders are losing money anyway.) Otherwise, they would have to decompile every algo they have and test them, which is a quite a lot of work.

Also, actually making decompiled code useful is difficult, since everything gets given default variable names and the coding structure is reverted to a very simple form. So it would be tough to reverse engineer your algorithm and sell it again. But as you said, not impossible. Lastly, assuming they've done all this, the odds of them trading in large enough volumes with your algo to actually affect the outcome of your trades is extremely small.
